THE HELMET, SWORD & SHIELD

In My Father's House

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

John 14:2 (KJV)

In this wonderful key text we fully observe and witness that the only effective means by which the Disciples were told they would be enabled to cope with the specter of Trouble that entered their lives would be solely by heartily embracing this unbreakable promise made by the Lord Jesus Christ.

His intention was to permanently impart into their souls (and ours) an affirmed divine truth regarding the eternal present and future hope of all who have placed the faith and truth of their souls in His completed redemptive work on “the Cross.”

Because the Lord Jesus Christ is God (the Son), He explained to the Disciples that they could readily depend on the Word of Promise that He had spoken to them, and rest assured that all would eventually come to pass as was declared.

In the latter half of verse one, He reiterated the key point, “ye believe in God, believe also in me.” And, in fact it stands true that we cannot truly believe in God, the Father unless we accept and embrace the person of God, the Son.

In John 5:22-23 the Lord Jesus explicitly declared, “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.”

And, later in John 14:6 He re-emphasized the point, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Moreover, this particular divine promise of God given on that occasion is both clearly and deliberately exclusive in nature and context.

Unquestionably, it was not a universal statement given to the whole of sinfully rebellious humanity; but on the contrary, this promise of God is made only to those that have been made newborn creatures in Christ Jesus.

A PREPARED PEOPLE

The Lord reminds us through the inspired pen, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ.” 2 Cor 5:17-18a (KJV)

As such we should unmistakably recognize the fact that this promise made by the Lord Jesus Christ plainly described “a prepared place” that will be made for “a prepared people.” It is a personal promise that was given to serve as a desperately needed beacon of hope, and radiant beam of guiding light for every generation of believers who at times drift (as a result of sin) from “the appointed path,” and ” lose sight and vision on the “high calling” that we have been appointed to by the grace of God.

1 Peter 2:9-10 clears the cloudiness from our eyes and prompts us to again realize, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. “

As a result of the completed redemptive work of the Lord Jesus, Ephesians 2:17-18 compels us to praise God and rejoice in knowing, “For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.”

Too, the pen of the inspired writer prompts us in Philippians 3:20-21 to consider, “For our conversation (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

These divine affirmations have been exclusively given to us (Christ followers) to enable us to remember the grand nature of our “calling” and commission of serve as we sojourn in this earthly sphere awaiting the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Addressing the practical meaningfulness this point, Apostle Paul pastorally encouraged the Ephesian assembly (and us), “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,  With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”  Eph 4:1-3 (KJV)

  The Book of Rememberance
“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.” Malachi 3:16
